John James Gartelos

John James Gartelos 68, of East Moline, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018, at his home surrounded by his famliy.

A memorial visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd.  A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 27, 2018, at the funeral home.  A luncheon will follow at noon at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline.  Per his wishes, cremation rights have been accorded.  Memorials may be made to the family.

John was born on October 7, 1950, in Rock Island, IL, the son of James P. and Anna H. (Kostadelos) Gartelos.  He married Randi Hart July 10, 1977, in Rock Island, IL.  John retired from the State of Illinois, Department of Transportation. After retirement John worked as a bailiff with the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office, following in his father’s footsteps. John was an avid golfer, fisherman, and hunter.  John enjoyed playing poker and especially spending time with his large family.

Survivors include his wife, Randi; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Scott Bance, East Moline, IL, son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Amy Laud, Hampton, IL, daughter and son-in-law, Niki and Jesse Doty, Milan, IL, brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Karen Gartelos, Waterloo, IA, brother and sister-in-law, George and Norene Gartelos, Marion, IA, sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Gordon Siokos, Bettendorf, IA, grandchildren; Ashley Emerson, fiancé Tyler Hansen, Zac Bance Cody and Mason Laud, Hannah, Emma, and Jonathan Doty, great grandchildren; Oliver Hansen and Alec Laud.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
