John H. Layton, 76 of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away June 19th, 2011 at Trinity Rock Island.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2011 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at the National Cemetery with military rites conducted by Moline American Legion Post #246.
John was born on March 30, 1935 in Albia, Iowa the son of John Sr. and LaVelle Ricketts Layton. He married Hilde Ruby on March 6, 1958 in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
John was employed with Wonder Bread and the former ITT Continental Baking Company as a driver and received a driving safety award for over 31 years without incident. He was an Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Layton and mother LaVelle Elswick of Albia, sisters Sue Woodward and Thelma Allen and brothers, Gaylor Allen and Bill Layton and his favorite cat Mookie.
