John P. Melcher

John Philip Melcher, 61, of Geneseo, passed away Monday, July 9, 2018, at UnityPoint Health, Trinity Rock Island.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018, at First United Methodist Church, 302 N State St, Geneseo.  Visitation will be Friday, July 13th, from 4-7 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Ave., Moline.  Cremation rites will follow services.  Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Geneseo or to Shriners Hospitals For Children.

John was born on October 1, 1956 in Rosiclare, IL, the son of William Henry and Marjorie Ann Aupperle Melcher.  He married Jami Johnson on November 30, 1985 in East Moline.  John worked as a civil engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 32 years, and later at McClure Engineering\IMEG Corp.

John was a member at First United Methodist Church in Geneseo, where he served as an usher, greeter, and with the church’s BackPack Blessings Program.  He was a member of the Doric Lodge No. 319 AF + AM, Moline, and Past Patron of the Moline Chapter #258, Order of Eastern Star.  John enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Jami Melcher; son, Matthew (Erica) Melcher, Jacksonville, IL; daughter, Megan (Steven) Olson, Princeton, IL; grandchild, Lucy Melcher; and brother, Richard (Patty) Melcher, Benton, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Jody Lentz.
