John Frederick Petersen, 65, of Silvis, IL, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Illini Restorative Care in Silvis after an extended battle with Parkinson’s disease.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 6, at First Lutheran Church, 1230 5th Ave, Moline. Per John’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, with inurnment at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Honorary pallbearers include Matthew Petersen, Katherine Panning, Joshua Linman, Sarah Bello, Alejandro Diaz, Duane Baldwin, and Chris Heller. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church in Moline or to Illini Restorative Care in Silvis. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.

John was born on October 10, 1959, in Moline, Ill., the son of James D. and LaVerne M. (Johnson) Petersen. John attended Moline Public Schools and worked in warehouse management during his career. John enjoyed sports, was an avid Cubs and Bears fan, and was a hockey and rugby enthusiast. John also participated in and volunteered with the BIX 7. His family and friends will remember John as someone who was loving and caring as a brother, uncle, cousin, and/or friend.

Survivors include his brother Mark D. (Karen) Petersen of Bettendorf and sister Patti (Jeff) Linman of Decatur, GA; beloved nephews and nieces Matthew, Katherine, Joshua, and Sarah; great nephews and nieces Cole, Josephine, Emory, Lyla, and Mia; loyal friend Margaret Guajardo, and her grandson Alejandro Diaz.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, David.

The family would like to thank the staff at Illini Restorative Care who helped make John’s final years easier.
