John M. Prieto, Sr. 87, of East Moline, died September 24, 2008 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.
Rite of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday September 29, 2008 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 p.m. with a rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the church.
John was born March 18, 1921 in Silvis to Guadalupe and Vicenta (Rojas) Prieto. He married Dolores Hernandez on June 6, 1942 in Silvis. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2003.
John was a laborer for 38 years at the former I.H. Farmall Plant in Rock Island, retiring in May of 1982. He also had owned and operated Prieto's Grocery Store in Silvis for 15 years. He bartended for over 30 years at VFW Post 8890, East Moline, last working on September 10, 2008.
John was a charter member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where he served the church in many capacities including a member of the Father Pro Men's Society and as an usher for many years. He was an associate member of the M.A.V.A. and was an avid bowler playing on many leagues.
He is survived by

He was preceded in death by his daughter Dr. Mary Louise Prieto-Bayard, son Dr. Vincent T. Prieto, infant daughter, his brother Loretto Prieto and his parents.
