John Roman Quinlin

John R. Quinlin, 83, of Moline, died December 3, 2010 at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton, Kansas.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 9, at Moline Missionary Church, 3910 13th St., Moline. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Moline Missionary Church.
John was born May 29, 1927 in Burlington, Iowa to Thomas and Marie Carr Quinlin. He was a graduate of Little York High School after having served in China with the Marines in World War II. He went to Business College in Moline and began his career at First National Bank in downtown Moline, where he met Joan E. Bast. They were married on July 11, 1952. Most of his career centered around the plumbing and heating industry, having worked at May Company, Moline Heating and Construction Company and Adel Wholesalers in Bettendorf, where he retired after several years as a salesman throughout western Illinois. He was always very generous with his time fixing leaking faucets and helping with plumbing emergencies for his church family and friends.
John was an active member of Moline Missionary Church, which was the former Moline Evangelical Church. He was the church treasurer and church camp treasurer for many years and served as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, children's ministry leader and lay leader. He was the secretary for the South Moline Fire Protection District for many years. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, softball, and basketball, and for several years supervised the YMCA church basketball league. He was active in coaching baseball with Dad's Club and was proud of his grandchildren's accomplishments in sports. He also enjoyed bowling with the church bowling team. He was a member of the Aledo Investment Club and enjoyed traveling, hunting for morel mushrooms in the spring, and doing crossword puzzles.
He is survived by sons, Martin "Marty" (Joanne) Quinlin, Milan, and Dr. Daniel "Dan" (Julie) Quinlin, Newton, Kan.; grandchildren Thomas Quinlin, Milan, Sarah Quinlin, Milan, Micah Quinlin, Newton, Kan., and brother Leroy Quinlin, Winfield, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan on January 15, 2010, and brothers Robert, Edward, Charles, Paul (infant), Wayne (infant), and Forb.
