John "Jack" Roxlau

November 26, 1942 — March 22, 2018

John “Jack” E. Roxlau, 75, of Erie, IL, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 22, 2018, after his long fight with cancer since 2005.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2018, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory Ltd., 6601 38th Ave., Moline.  Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at the National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post 246.  Memorials may be made to Christ Church of Colona.

Jack was born on November 26, 1942, in Burlington, IA, the son of John R. and Maude R. James Roxlau.  Jack was a very proud union man (U.A.W.) since 1961.  Jack, after studying the platforms of the major political parties decided that the Democratic party was his choice and was proud to say he never voted Republican.  Jack retired from Farmall/Navistar with 35 years.  He loved his Cubs and Bears.  An avid outdoors man, mainly deer hunting in his later years.  And proud to see his kids, grandkids and great grandkids following in his footsteps.

Jack leaves his precious wife, Shirley, married in 1961, and his children who he raised from babies, Mike (Penny) Hayes, Terry (Roger) Nutt, Bob (Marcia) Hayes, Roxanne Humphreys, and Rick Hayes, already in heaven since 1988 waiting for his Dad.  He also leaves behind 11 grandkids, 17 great grandkids, sisters, Sandra (Joe) Miller and Sherry Martin, and beloved pet, Shiloh.

Jack will be laid to rest on the Rock Island Arsenal, having served in the Army.  Gone before him are his parents and many family and friends.  Jack was a member of Christ Church of Colona.  Former member of the Moline Gospel Temple, of Moline, his church will handle the funeral services, where Jack enjoyed teaching and serving as an elder.  Always wanted it to be remembered, He tried.
