John “Jack” B. Thomson, 90, of Silvis, IL, died Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at New Perspective, Silvis, IL
A memorial visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Cremation rites will be accorded and burial of cremains will be at National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
John was born on July 25, 1927, in Des Moines, IA, the son of Kenneth B. and Esther Laura Nelson Thomson. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1949 and married Ruth L. Gustafson on October 24, 1953, at Salem Lutheran Church in Moline. John worked as an accountant and later as the General Manager of Rock Island Millwork Co. He was also the owner/operator of Thrifty Rent-A-Car and Airport Road Rental. He established several other entrepreneurial endeavors, such as ABC Seamless Steel Siding, a Super Car Wash, real estate agent, and developer of Villa Pines Condos.
John loved to go golfing, attend auctions, and shop at garage sales. He was a member of Orion United Methodist Church. He was a United States Navy veteran, having proudly served during WWII from August 1945 to August 1946.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Thomson, Silvis, IL; children, Ann (Bill) Bollmann, Bettendorf, IA, Jan (Art) Jackson, Lynn Center, IL, Bill (Debbie) Thomson, Bettendorf, IA, Bob (Sandy) Thomson, Orion, IL, Jill (Nigel) Robins, Hampton, IL, Jean (Mike) Swab, Illinois City, IL; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pat Rask.
