John “Jack” Van Oteghem, 87, of Moline, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021, at River Crossing of Moline.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon, Thursday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by post #246. Memorials may be made to the family.
Jack was born on June 8, 1934, in Moline, the son of Alphonse and Florence Ann (Hoogerwerf) Van Oteghem. He married Sally Creen on July 2, 1955, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Moline. Jack was a United States Navy veteran. He was a fireman for Moline Fire Department for 24 years retiring as a lieutenant in 1975. During that time, he also worked for Davenport schools as a printer for 20 years. Jack went on to work for Julie’s Artistic Rose in Moline as a delivery driver. Jack was a Second Alarmer for Moline. He was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Moline where he was also on the parish council. Jack was a eucharistic minister. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Jack was a member of Moline American Legion and enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, daughter, Marcy Hardy, Palm Harbor, FL; grandchildren, Ashley Van Oteghem, Davenport, Danielle Nipper, Moline, Jessica Avey, Moline, Sarah Hardy, St. Petersburg, FL; great grandsons, Ethan Van Oteghem, Moline, and Isaac Johnson, Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Charles Van Oteghem, 4 brothers, Robert, Leonard, Dick, and Bill.
