Joyce Dobbins, age 60, of Rapids City, died November 10, 2010, at her home.
Per Joyce's wishes, her remains have been cremated. Visitation is Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline from 1:00-5:00 p.m. with a dove release at 3 p.m., followed by a presentation from Joyce's co-workers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Literacy Connection at Faith Lutheran Church, or to help the family with medical and funeral expenses.
Joyce was born April 30, 1950 in Springfield, MO, the daughter of Roy "Shorty" and Velma (Freeze) Kuhn. She married Ralph Dobbins on July 5, 1973 in Rock Island.
Joyce was employed as a first grade teacher for the Moline School District for 38 years, retiring in 2009 from Washington Elementary School. She had a passion for learning, and was integral to TLC (The Literacy Connection at Faith Lutheran Church). Joyce started Conflict Mediators and Peacebuilders, at the Moline School District. She also started the Western Reading Programs and WIPPEE (Washington Inventive Popcorn Program for Economic Education) at Washington Elementary School. She enjoyed gardening, canning, making porcelain dolls, and arts & crafts. Joyce loved her view of the Mississippi River. She also loved her animals, and had an extensive collection of pigs.
