Joyce (Birlew) Kanke, 76, of East Moline, IL, died Sunday, October 20, 2013, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, IL.
Per her wishes cremation rites will be accorded and there will be no funeral service. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Joyce was born on February 28, 1937, in Cordova, IL, the daughter of Ed and Darlene "Dolly" (DeMont) Kay. She worked various jobs and retired from Moline Public Hospital, Dietary Dept., in 1985. She married Charles Birlew in 1956 and later married Charles Kanke in 1985.
Joyce was a member of the East End Club, Friends Circle and the Elks Club. She was a skilled card player and enjoyed poker and euchre. She loved to camp and spent many winters hanging out at Apache Junction Arizona. You were always greeted with a friendly smile and a contagious laugh. She loved her family, friends and her little dog, Buddy.
