June G. Coulter, 86, of Orion, died Thursday, January 12, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2006, at the Orion United Methodist Church, Orion. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301-4th St., Orion. Burial will be in the Western Township Cemetery, Orion. Memorials may be made to the Orion United Methodist Church, St. Paul Lutheran Church or to the Orion Community Veteran's Monument.
June Gertrude Coulter was born June 21, 1919, to Carl J.and Emma M. Mohs Steinmetz in Cresco, Iowa. The family moved to Davenport when she was 8 years old. She graduated from Davenport Central High School in June of 1937. She attended Comptometer School in Davenport and was hired by East Moline International Harvester in the payroll department, until the company had a large lay off season. She then worked at the Standard Oil Company office until they moved to Mason City and Des Moines during the war. She worked in Des Moines for about six months and then worked at the Davenport Besler Corporation until they sold out to the Canadians. Later she worked at the Blackhawk Hotel and the Kahl Building until getting married to Wyman R. Coulter on April 23, 1960 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Davenport. She then moved to Orion and joined the Orion United Methodist Church. She was active in the Church Women's Society and always called the church her second home. She was the past president of the Orion Women's Club and held many other offices after that. She was past president of the Osco-Western Home Extension of Orion, member of the O.T.C. Card Club until it disbanded, charter member of the Plus 60 Club of Davenport, President of the Senior Tuesday Meal Site and Secretary/Treasurer of the Senior monthly pot luck meetings.
She loved to dance with her husband and met many good friends during that time. She liked to play cards, do yard work and travel with her husband when they could.
There were no immediate survivors.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 29, 2004.
