J.W. Stephens, 81 of Rock Island died July 31, 2004 at his home.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Monday from 5-8 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave, Moline. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Memorials may be made to First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church or Pathway Hospice.
J.W. was born October 3, 1922 in Newport, AR to Thomas Franklin and Lula Belle Swindle Stephens. He married Euna Belle Smith on July 12, 1941 in Rural Newport, AR.
J.W. was a welder and grinder for 30 years at John Deere Plow retiring in 1979. After retirement he enjoyed his time farming in Clayton, IL.
J.W. became an ordained deacon of his church in September of 1954. He was a charter member of his church and the pastor's best friend. He loved his church and his church family. He had a large garden and loved his time spent in Clayton, IL.
