Karen Sloan, 83, of Sherrard, passed away, Sunday, December 20, 2020, at her home.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 10am on Wednesday, June 1st at Cable Community Church. Inurnment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cable Community Church. Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Orion is assisting the family.
Karen was born on January 27, 1937, in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Russell and Nathalie (Ross) Blaser. She married Earl V. Sloan Jr. on June 1, 1956, in Lincoln, NE. He preceded her on July 23, 2008. Karen was a member of Cable Community Church. She bred, raised, trained, showed, and rescued over 100 Arabian and Morab horse breeds in her lifetime. She also did dressage training. She was deeply involved in the New Kingdom Trailriders and donated horses to the organization. Karen was a member of All Breeds Club and the Quad City Arabian Horse Club.
Survivors include her children, David Sloan, Sherrard, Dianne Hicks, Davenport, Steven (Becky) Sloan Sherrard; grandchildren, Benjamin Kiefer, Des Moines, Justin Sloan, Cedar Rapids, Michael Sloan, Laurel, MD, Michelle Dallas, Seattle, WA, Sarah Hicks, Sherrard, Rachel Hicks, Conesville, IA, Kierstyn, Sherrard, Keyton Sloan, Chicago, and Kirklan Sloan, Sherrard; 8 great grandchildren; and brother, Gene (Diane) Blaser.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
