Kenneth B. Smith

Kenneth B. Smith, 90, of Rock Island, formerly of Moline died on Friday, May 27, 2016 at UnityPoint Health Trinity Rock Island.

A funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 4107 21st Avenue, Moline.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.  Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park.  Memorials may be directed to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, where they were long-time members; Friendship Manor in Rock Island; Two Rivers YMCA of Moline or to a charity of your choice.  Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. is assisting the family with arrangements.

Kenneth was born in Monmouth, Illinois the son of Elmer and Florence Logan Smith.  He attended schools in Keithsburg and Aledo, and graduated from Moline High School in 1943.  He later graduated from the University of Iowa in 1947.   He married Julia Stupp in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1950.

Kenneth’s entire employment was with Deere & Company, having served in various accounting and financial positions.  At the time of his retirement in 1986, he was Treasurer of Deere and Vice President and Treasurer of the John Deere Credit Company.

Kenneth and his wife loved traveling and visiting family.

Survivors include his loving wife, Julia, of 66 years.

He was also blessed with nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Martha Bonynge of Orion; brothers, Frank E. Smith of Aledo and Dr. Robert L. Smith of Lewisburg, West Virginia.
