Kenneth Jay Swanson, age 67, Moline, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at Unity-Point Health Trinity Rock Island after a courageous battle against multiple myeloma cancer.
Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, April 28, 2014, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Riverview Free Will Baptist Church, 820-18th Street, Bettendorf. Per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following services. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
Kenny was born on September 2, 1946 in Fargo, ND, the son of Joseph "Jay" and Helen (Seymour) Swanson. He grew up and attended school in Sheldon, ND, and Clark, SD, where he graduated in 1964. While in high school he met the love of his life, Madeline Larson. They were married on December 11, 1965 and shared 48 memorable years together.
He worked many years for McLaughlin Body, Co., Moline and most recently retired from R.A. Jones, Co. in Davenport. He loved all things outdoors; hunting, fishing, working in his yard and keeping the neighborhood birds happy and well fed, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Madeline, sons Todd (Lisa), North Aurora, IL and Kris (Grayce), North East, MD. Grandchildren Aaron, Austin and Annalise Swanson of North Aurora, IL and Kristopher and Alexandria Swanson of North East, MD. His mother, Helen Nehls, Bristol, SD, twin sister, Mary Hovde, Watertown, SD and brothers, Lanny (Ruby), Sioux Falls, SD, Dean (Pat) , Aberdeen, SD, John (Renee), Slayton, MN and Dixon (Lucy), Parker, SD, mother-in-law, Norma Bailey, Clark, SD. brother-in-law, Harly (Alice) Larson, Moline and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister-in-law.
Kenny will always be remembered for being a friend to all, having a great sense of humor, being able to strike up a conversation with anyone and for putting everyone else's needs before his own.
