Lawrence “Larry” Saelens, 58, of Moline, IL, died Thursday, June 30, 2016, at home.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 412 10th Street, Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment of cremains will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Moline. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Food Pantry. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Larry was born on December 31, 1957, in Moline, IL, the son of Raymond G. and Joyce M. Stahl Saelens. He worked as a night auditor for several Quad City hotels, including the Moline Holiday Inn, where he worked for 9 years.
Larry was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Moline. He attended the University of Maryland, Munich Campus, in Germany and later graduated from Blackhawk College with an Associate Degree. Prior to that, he graduated from Moline High School in 1976.
Larry had an incredible love of music and was extremely talented at learning foreign languages. He lived in Germany for 8 years and spoke German fluently. He was especially talented at troubleshooting electronics and repairing clocks.
Survivors include his parents, Raymond and Joyce Saelens, Moline, IL; brothers, Mark (Jennifer) Saelens, Rockford, MI; Daniel (Deborah) Saelens, Colorado Springs, CO; sisters, Beth (Michael) Nickell, East Moline, IL, Diane (Joseph) Gardner, Sherrard, IL; with several nieces and nephews.
