Lee Roy Stropes, 74, of Orion, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at his home.
A visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. Funeral services will 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal. Military honors will be conducted by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 299. Memorials may be made to either the DAV or to Q.C. Paws.
Lee Roy was born on January 28, 1945 in Rock Island, the son of Melvin and Marie Stropes. He served in the Army between 1966 - 1968, during the Vietnam War. He married June A. Stickle on April 12, 1969 and she preceded him in death on September 7, 2014.
Lee Roy was employed with McLaughlin Body as a finish grinder, he later went on to own S&S Body with his brother-in-law. Lee Roy retired in 2009 from MidAmerican Energy as a meter reader.
Lee Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and riding his motorcycle. He was truly a people person that never met a stranger, above all, was Lee Roy’s love for his family and spending time with his grandkids.
Survivors include his 2 sons, Derrick (Leah) Stropes, Cambridge, IL, Chad (Leigh Ann) Stropes, Orion, IL; Grandchildren, Hope, Paige, Chance, Kodi and Rachel; Brother, William Stropes; Special Friend, Lilian Huddelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, June and sister-in-law, Sandy “Sue” Stropes.
