Len "Swede" Carlson

January 22, 1932 — February 9, 2019

Lennart “Swede” Carlson, 87, of Moline, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2019, at UnityPoint Trinity-Rock Island.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be from 2-5 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2019, at the Viking Club of Moline.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in his name.  Private burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.    Memorials may be made to the family for fund to be established at a later date.  Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., is assisting the family.

Len was born on January 22, 1932, in Moline, the son of Carl Arthur and Ruth (Carlson) Carlson.  He married Nancy Larson on June 27, 1953, in Rock Island.  She preceded him in death on April 26, 1987.  He later married Charlotte Spiess on July 2, 1994, in Moline.  Len started in the building trades as a carpenter in 1950, working for various construction companies in the Quad-Cities area.  He retired from Augustana College in 1998, as supervisor of the structural department.  He enjoyed fishing and trips to the casino.  On Sundays, he liked to go on long drives and he always loved his trips to Wisconsin.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; children, Lon (Brenda), Champaign, IL, Randy (Julie), Viola, Craig (Beth). Rockford, IL, Michael (Misha), Geneseo, Christian (Cheree), Milan; seven grandchildren, Jason (Wendy), Eric (Betsy), Nick (Ashley), Miranda, Lucas, Austin, and Garrett; four great grandchildren, Logan, Olivia, Cale, and Conrad; step-children, Joe (Julie) Spiess, Iowa City, Cindy (Mark) Hoffman, Dublin, CA, Peggy (Dan) Parchert, Illinois City, and Sandy (Jay) Wyckoff, Milan; and seven step grandchildren, Arthur (Molly), Nicholas, Ethan, Rebecca, Emily, Andrew, and Brayden.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Seger, brother, Robert Carlson, sister, Alice Ahlstrand Hoover, and nephews, Steve Ahlstrand and Ken Ahlstrand.
