Leo M. Gottwalt, 78 of Carbon Cliff, died April 19, 2006 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at the Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Myelodysplastic Foundation.
Leo was born January 13, 1928 in Rice, MN to Paul and Ottilia (Philippi) Gottwalt. He married Dorothy A. Coryell on Feb. 11, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline.
Leo was a carpenter/foreman for many years for the Local 166 while also working for Ericson Construction for 26 ? years. He also served as a building inspector for Village of Carbon Cliff plus was the Zoning Commissioner and the on the planning and zoning committee. He began in 1958 and resigned as inspector in 1989.
Leo was an Army veteran serving from April 23, 1946-May 21, 1947 stationed in Korea.
Leo was a life member of Carbon Cliff/ Silvis Optimist Club. He was a former member of American Legion Post #227, East Moline. He was also a member of the Carpenter's Union Local 166.
Leo enjoyed his life as a carpenter and working with his hands even after he retired.
He also enjoyed cooking for his family especially for all the family holidays. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
