Leonard F. Fritz, age 88. of East Moline, died Saturday, November 17, 2007 at Hammond Henry Hospital, Geneseo
Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with an Elks Service at 6:00 p.m. conducted by Rock Island Elks Lodge #980. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park with military honors conducted by East Moline American Legion Post #227. Memorials may be made to Hammond Henry Hospital Skilled Nursing or Beacon of Hope Hospice.
Leonard was born July 30, 1919 in Blue Island, IL the son of Joseph and Ina Fritz. He married Lois Groth on December 3, 1943 in Chicago. She preceded him in death on May 17, 2004.
Leonard was employed at John Deere Harvester Works for 36 years, retiring in October 1982. He then worked at Harvester as a tour guide for 22 years. Leonard was an army staff sergeant serving from 1940-1945. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, East Moline; chaplain of the Moline Elks Lodge for 28 years ; and member of East Moline American Legion Post # 227. Leonard enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood-working, and gardening ( especially Dahlias). He was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan, and a Geneseo Green Machine Football fan.
