Leonard Kaalberg, age 80 of East Moline passed peacefully from this life into God's loving hands on July 12, 2004.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday July 17, 2004, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Child Abuse Council, 525-16th St., Moline, IL, 61265.
Leonard was born on July 28, 1923 Nichols, IA, the son of William and Johanna Giesen Kaalberg. He married Mabel Croxton on December 16, 1950 in Rock Island, IL.
For 25 years Leonard worked as a repairman for John Deere, retiring in 1980.
Leonard was a lifelong member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where he was part of the landscaping crew. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and a World War II Veteran, serving with the Eighth Armored Division. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeye fan, and he enjoyed volunteering at the John Deere Classic. He loved babysitting his grandkids, carpentry and fishing.
