Leonard "Len" G. Mahieu

Leonard G. Mahieu, 81, of Moline, IL passed away at Heartland Healthcare Center in Moline on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Per his request there will be no services. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Len was born on November 12, 1936 in Moline to Joseph and Columbia VanDeWalle Mahieu. He served in the US Navy after his 1955 graduation from Moline High School. He married Mary C. Lyon in 1959 and fathered five children. In 1982, he married Pamela S. Smilgis and became a stepfather to her three daughters.

Len was a sign painter for 45 years working mostly at his own business, Len Mahieu Signs. His favorite past time was anything to do with the river, whether fishing boating, or just enjoying a cigar while watching it roll by.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela; children, Michael (Franchy) Mahieu, Haltom City, TX, Elizabeth (Dan) Sexton, Weatherford, TX, David Mahieu, Milan, IL, Thomas Mahieu, Milan, IL, Daniel Mahieu, Stoughton, WI; stepchildren, Kimmerly (Robert) Hornick, Rock Island, IL, Kassandra Smilgis; 17 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; and brother, Richard Mahieu;.

Preceding him in death are his brothers Kenneth and Bernard, stepbrother, Thor Larson, stepdaughter, Steffani Weir (Douglas also deceased).
