Lester H. Taylor

April 18, 1926 — June 5, 2007

Lester H. "Red" Taylor, 81, East Moline, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at the Select Hospital in Davenport, IA following a brief illness. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8th, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at funeral home in Moline. The Rev. Karl Roberts will officiate. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born April 18, 1926 in Anita, Iowa to Herman and Helen Gray Taylor. He married Hazel Kepple on September 12, 1947 in Rock Island.
Les served in the Army Air Corp from July 7, 1944 to June 25, 1946. He worked at John Deere Harvester as an assembler, retiring on November 1, 1983 after 33 years of service.
He was the historian at The Mark. He also belonged to the Popular Astronomy Club and the Quad-Cities Computer Society. His hobbies included flying and photography.
His photography has preserved the history of many important construction projects around the Illinois Quad-Cities. These include The Mark, Moline, the City Garage, Jewel store, and Metro Transfer Station all in East Moline and his last project, the Silvis Blackhawk Bank.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel. Son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Robin Taylor, East Moline. Daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Craig Tucker of Stockton, Iowa. Grandchildren and spouses, Renae and Matt Clarke of Plainfield, IL, Becky and Jerry Schneider of Bolingbrook, IL, Ryan Taylor of Edwardsville, IL and Robin, Alex, and Laura Tucker of Stockton, Iowa. Great-Grandsons Logan and Zachary Clarke of Plainfield, IL. Brother and spouse, Max and Mary Taylor of Moline and many nieces and nephews.
Les was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Eugene, James, and Raymond.
