Lillian J. Lundberg, 85, of Moline, died Monday, May 12, 2008, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.

Lillian Josephine Peterson was born June 4, 1922, in Newton, Mass., daughter of Claes Henrik and Alfrida Josephine Jonsson Peterson.
After high school and business college, she worked in Boston until January 1947, when she came to Moline to visit an aunt. A two-week vacation turned into a permanent stay when she got a job at Deere & Co. and met Jeanette Lundberg, who introduced Lillian to her brother.
Lillian married Edwin Robert Lundberg Sept. 30, 1949, at First Lutheran Church, Moline. Bob died Sept. 7, 1988.
She is survived by one daughter, Jean M. Lundberg, Moline.
Lillian always loved to travel, perhaps because she left home on a pillow at two weeks old for her first summer on Cape Cod. She and Bob traveled the country by car in early years, then graduated to tour groups both in the United States and Europe. After Bob died, Lillian and Jean discovered cruising. By Jean's count, Lillian had
been in 40 countries and 49 of the 50 states.
Another of Lillian's lifelong interests was needlecrafts -- knitting, crocheting, cross-stitch, needlepoint, embroidery, quilting. Her home is filled with needlepoint and cross-stitch scenes of places she visited, quilts she did by hand using a frame that Bob made, even a rya rug and pillows crafted using yarn brought back from Sweden. In recent years, she knitted countless scarves and donated them to charities -- last year's count was about 75.
Lillian also is survived by two first cousins, Anna Fairfield, Wilton, N.H., and Emma Peterson, Harwich Port, Mass.; Bob's nephew and his wife, Alan and Dolores Peterson, Littleton, Colo., and their sons, Brad Peterson, Roggen, Colo., and Mark Peterson, Colby, Kan.; special friends, Alice Aronson, Rock Island, Vivian Hammerberg, Moline, Carol Carlson, Moline, Eleanor Erickson, Peterborough, N.H., and Fred Booth, Reading, Mass.; and many other second and third cousins in New
England, especially Wayne Tobiasson, Etna, N.H., and Bruce Tobiasson, Medfield,
Mass.
