Lois Virginia Russell, 92, of Orion died August 22, 2008 at her home.
Visitation will be from 12:30 -1:30 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2008 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. with a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park in Galesburg, IL. Memorials may be made to the family.
Lois was born December 17, 1915 in Galesburg, IL to Henry Arthur and Elin Otelia (Anderson) Nelson. She grew up in New Windsor and Galesburg speaking Swedish until she was six years old. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1933. She married Joseph N. Russell on December 11, 1943 in Los Angles California.
Lois began her career as an OSD clerk for the CB&Q Railroad, Galesburg. She then was employed from 1941-1944 for Walt Disney Studio in the Animation Dept working on training films for the Army and animation films such as Bambi. She then worked at the Galesburg Research Hospital. She was last employed at C.R. Hanna Elementary School in Orion where she was a cook.
Lois and her husband moved to Philadelphia to care for her brother-in-law after World War II. Lois swam twice a day until she was 86 years old. She was a good listener, always had a busy house with friends and family being welcomed. She was a great cook and loved spending time with her family.
