Lois was born on January 19, 1934, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Axel and Lillian (Flower) Wellander. She married Robert “Bob” Lee Viaene on August 19, 1961, in Moline. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2008. Lois was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was often a volunteer for the schools or the church. At Christ the King, she taught “CCD” Classes and volunteered with the PTA at the schools.
She was known as a talkative and caring person. In her younger years, she enjoyed going on trips around the country with her sister and friends. Lois told many stories about her childhood, especially about the love she had for her parents, and her stories of falling in love and marrying Robert. Lois loved having her children and cared for them deeply and always made sure her kids had whatever they wanted or needed. Lois also always looked out for her kid’s friends; her home was their home. She enjoyed going on Naval reunion retirement trips with Bob in their yellow Ford Mustang. When Lois became a Nana, she went above and beyond for all of her grandchildren. She was a huge sports fan, cheering for the Illini Basketball Team and the Chicago Cubs. In 2016, she attended the World Series Parade for the Cubs. Lois also enjoyed feeding the wild birds and deer.
Survivors include her sons, Joseph (Diane) and Nicholas (Trina) Viaene; grandchildren, Jacob (Jamie), Mitchell (Alyssa), and Ryne (Tia Schroder) Viaene; great-granddaughter Hadlee Viaene and 1 great-grandchild on the way; sisters, Pat Allers and Barbara (Joe) Palma; niece, Stephanie Allers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; granddaughter Lauren; and sister, Shirley Clifford.
Special thanks to Lo’s caregivers who loved her and became family.
