Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
Lola was born in Pollock, Missouri on May 20, 1928 to the late Riley and Ethel Pierson. She married Robert (Bob) Reger September 11, 1946, in Lawrence, Kansas. They were married for 59 years until Robert passed away in March of 2006.
Lola grew up during the depression on a small, self-sufficient farm near Pollock. Along with her nine sisters and 3 brothers, she learned the values of hard work, sacrifice, and self reliance required to sustain a family during these most difficult years. As the World War Two approached, she met a young man named Bob, who would ultimately become her husband of almost sixty years. During the war years Bob moved to California to work in a ship yard near San Francisco. During that time, Lola worked and waited as Robert returned once each year, until the end of the war. After marriage, they soon moved to the Quad Cities to begin their future together. They built their own home in Silvis. Lola's culinary skills, and homemade jams and jellies are legendary. If Bob could grow it, she could can and preserve it. She was tirelessly dedicated to raising her family. Lola supported her community, schools, volunteering, providing coveted pies, and cakes for all occasions. Lola loved her family and friends, welcoming and accepting everyone unconditionally. There was always room for one more at her table. We will miss her ever present smile, ceaseless energy, and unassuming personality. Her family will honor her memory, and pass on to successive generations, those values she personified.
Lola is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Reger, East Moline; three sons and their spouses, George and Diane Reger, Bettendorf, Richard and Tami Reger, Coal Valley and John and Marty Reger, Santa Fe, NM; six grandchildren and their spouses, Allyson and Rod Leatherman, Wendy and Andy Hare, Chris and Kate Reger, Paul and Alisha Smith, Gretchen Reger and Ben Reger, thirteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren, her brother Kenneth Pierson, nieces, nephews, great - nieces and great-nephews.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her mother, father, nine sisters and two brothers.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Vicki Fletcher for her compassion, care and support throughout their Mother's illness.
