Lonnie E. Gritton, 94, of Oakridge, Tenn. passed away on March 31, 2006 in an Oakridge nursing home. Graveside services will be Friday, April 7, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Edgington Cemetery, Edgington, IL. Military honors will be conducted by the Reynolds American Legion Post #1166. Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. is assisting the family.
He was born November 30, 1911 in Buffalo Prairie Township, the son of Clarence C. and Ethel Gritton. He attended grammar school in Edgington. He worked for farmers in the area until he went to work with the Rock Island Farmall Factory. He was inducted into the Army in 1939 and served 5 ?
years with honors. After service he returned to the Rock Island area until moving to Milwaukee, Wisc. where he lived until 1957 when he moved to California. He worked for Oscar Mayer until his retirement in the early 80's. He spent his retirement years in St. George, Utah. His wife Marjorie died July 27, 2004. He recently moved to Tenn., to be close to his brother, Warren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter Cheryl, a brother Bert E. Gritton and a sister, Ruth I. Bennett. He is survived by two brothers, Warren E. Gritton of Oakridge, Tenn., Eldon R. (Daphne) Gritton, Sacramento, California, several grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
