Louis (Louie") S. Hast of East Moline died Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at his home with his loved ones present following a courageous battle with colon cancer.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 Monday, October 3rd. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00-6:00 at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory, Ltd, 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society for Colon Cancer Research.
Louie was born on August 8, 1943 in Moline the son of George and Frances Shaffner Hast. He married Mary Nitzel on July 28, 1986 in Rock Island.
He was a machinist/press operator for Case New Holland retiring in 2002 and was also a member of E.M. U.A.W. Local 1304. He was a long distance truck driver and an Army Veteran. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed antiques, pool, fishing, riverboat gambling, and NASCAR, especially The Intimidator. Louie had a love for car racing that began when he was a young boy and at that time he and an older friend built a small car and enjoyed driving it in the Coal Valley parade. He also won the World Series of Drag Racing at Cordova in 1969.
Survivors include his wife Mary, sons and their wives Marshall and Lexi Dawson of Moline, R.J. and Debbie Coleman of Geneseo and daughters and their husbands Kristi Myren of Waterford, WI, Cerise and George Seay of Longwood, FL and Tamara and Don Clemons of Moline; 2 brothers Jeffery and Connie Hast of New Windsor and Roger Hast of Rome, IA; his father George and grandchildren Justin, Jake, Coleman, Isabelle and Kathryn and his dog Jack.
He was preceded in death by his mother Frances and brother Brian.
