Louis D. Rabe, 90, of Silvis, IL, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.
Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2012 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be following the service at National Cemetery at Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to River Valley District Library, 214 South Main Street, Port Byron, IL.
Louis was born on February 9, 1922 in Peekskill, NY, the son of Louis H.W. and Althea (Travis) Rabe. Louis was a 1952 graduate of Valparaiso University. He married Lois F. Pilling on April 3, 1948 in Bronxville, NY. She preceded him in death on May 3, 2012. During WWII he worked for Chance Vought on the Corsair. At Boeing he worked on the B52 and the Minuteman Missile. At the Rock Island Arsenal he worked on the Cobra Helicopter and the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. Louis served as a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant following WWII. He also served on the Port Byron Village Board as well as the Library Board.
