Louise Roby

Louise Roby, 99, of East Moline, IL, died Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline, IL.  Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park.  Memorials may be made to First Christian Church or to the Hope Creek Care Center Activity Fund.

Louise was born on December 7, 1916, in Sheffield, IL, the daughter of Fredrick and Eva Hunt Albright.  She married Wilbur Roby on June 25, 1938, at Presbyterian Church in Davenport, IA, and he preceded her in death in November of 1972.

During the war, Louise worked as a heat treat threader for International Harvester in East Moline.  She then went on to work in sales and alterations for Moskin’s and then for Ydeen’s Alterations.  Later, she worked for Trevor’s Hardware in Moline in the housewares department.

For over 60 years, Louise was a very active member of First Christian Church in Moline where she was also an elder, assisted with the church funeral luncheons, a leader of Bible Class, as well as a member of Christian Women Fellowship.  Alta was also a member of Rebekah Lodge of Women’s Auxiliary Odd Fellow for over 60 years, where she held the Degree of Chivalry.

Louise enjoyed her volunteer work with the Share Program of the downtown Moline Salvation Army and especially enjoyed driving handicapped people to their appointments.  Louise also would make quilts to assist in fundraising for the Hope Creek Care Center Activity Fund.

Survivors include her sons; Donald (Janice) Roby, Scottsdale, AZ, and Wilbur “Bill” (Lora) Roby, Moline, IL; 7 granddaughters; 1 grandson; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur; daughter, Judith Ann Schuldt; son, Fredrick Roby; granddaughter, Denise Ruby; great granddaughter, Stephanie Ruby; brothers, Curtis and Lynn Albright.
