Lowell D. Smith, age 82, of Weiner, AR, formerly of Orion, died on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Harris Hospital, Newport, AR.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013, at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301 4th Street, Orion. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery, Orion, where military honors will be performed by Orion American Legion Post # 255. Memorials may be made to V.F.W. Orion Post #255.
Lowell was born on August 5, 1930, in Ottumwa, IA, the son of Gilbert and Pauline (Dunton) Smith. He was a member of the V.F.W. having served the United States Marine Corps. from 1951-1953 as well as the United States Army Air Corps. He was also an underage veteran of WWII and served during the Korean War. Lowell married Helen "Rosie" R. Eslinger on December 11, 1950, in Oscaloosa, IA, and she preceded him in death on January 26, 2010, in Jonesboro, AR. Lowell worked as a methods set up man for John Deere Plow Planter.
