LuElla was born August 6, 1925, in Mountain Lake, MN, the eldest daughter of Jacob and Helen Fast Duerksen. She attended Mountain Lake Public Schools and graduated from Mankato College of Business with a bookkeeping degree. She worked as a bookkeeper for: Mt. Lake Corp Creamery, Butterfield Produce, Andich Furniture, bookkeeper for Fay A. Randerson Construction, Blitz Home Improvement, and Curry Home Exteriors.
On April 22, 1947, she was united in marriage to Fay A. Randerson in Mountain Lake, MN. They lived there before moving to Rock Island, IL, where they raised seven children together. LuElla took great pride in being a housewife, homemaker and bookkeeper for her husband’s contracting business.
One of her greatest joys was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even getting to meet two of her great-great-grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed attending and watching three granddaughters play high school & ASA softball.
She was active in PTA while her children were in grade school and even found time to be a Cub Scout den leader. She and Fay made sure all seven children were involved in Scouting and Boys/Girls Clubs at church.
LuElla was a past member of 1st Evangelical Free Church in Moline, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She currently held her membership at Faith Evangelical Free Church, Moline. In addition to teaching Sunday School, she was also active in the choir for many years. Along with her close friend, Rose Berhenke, they co-chaired the Women’s Missionary Society. She enjoyed organizing events, making table decorations and headed up “PROJECT LYDIA”.
Other hobbies included flower gardening, reading and crafting. Another great joy was sewing for, and with her daughters. She made beautiful wedding dresses for three of her daughters and bridesmaids dresses for four daughters’ weddings, a “labor of love” all five daughters will cherish forever.
Left to honor her memory are:
