Lyle Hoogheem

Lyle Paul Hoogheem (Hoagy) passed away Saturday, January 30, 2010, in Denver, CO.
He was born January 14, 1923 in Fulton, IL, son of Jacob and Maggie (Ottens) Hoogheem. He graduated from Fulton Community High School and during World War II, served in the Air Transport Command. He married Corabelle M. Wiersema (Corky), June 25, 1948. He retired from International Harvester East Moline Works in 1978 after 38 years of service. He was a member of First Congregational Church of Moline for over 50 years, serving on both the Church Council and Board of Trustees. He was a Life Member of Fulton City Lodge No. 189 A.F. & A. M. and the Moline Scottish Rite, where he served as Thrice Potent Master of Moline Lodge of Perfection, Commander-in-Chief of Moline Consistory, President of the Cathedral Association and received his 33rd degree. He was also an active member of numerous York Rite bodies, Zal Grotto, Kaaba Shrine, Moline Elks No. 556, and the Moline American Legion. In 1982 he helped with the founding of the River BendFoodbank. Most importantly, he will be remembered for his devotion to his faith, family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Corky, two of their sons, Stephen and James, grandson Jack Payne, and his mother and father.
Survivors include children: Thomas (Rebecca), Chesterfield, MO, Timothy (Virginia), Golden, CO, and Debbie (Bruce) Payne, Englewood, CO; grandchildren: Katharine (Kyle) Duitsman, Kristen and Sarah Hoogheem, Aimee (Parker) McAbery, Elizabeth (Tucker) Richmond, Benjamin Hoogheem, and Christopher Payne; siblings: Mrs. Robert (June) Sikkema, Fulton, IL, Mrs. Henry (Irma) Wiersema, Thomson, IL, and Kenneth (Dixie) Hoogheem, Clinton, IA.
Visitation will be at Esterdahl Mortuary in Moline, Friday, February 5 from 4-7 p.m. A Masonic funeral service (open to the public) will be held Saturday, February 6 at 9:00 a.m. at Esterdahl's. Burial will follow at Fulton Township Cemetery, for immediate family, with military rites conducted by Moline American Legion No. 246.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Memorial Fund at First Congregational Church of Moline, the Fulton City Lodge No. 189 or the River Bend Foodbank.
