Madelene J. Cederstrom, 90, of Sherrard, died Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.
Services will be held at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2005 after which Madelene will be laid to rest beside her husband, Albert, in the Sherrard Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Thursday, November 17, 2005 from 4-8 p.m. with a rosary at 4p.m. Memorials may be made to In-touch Adult Day services or to her church, St. Maria Goretti in Coal Valley.
Madelene was born on March 27, 1915 in Barstow, IL to Rene and Helena VanLandegen DeKeyrel. The oldest of 10 children, she is survived by four sisters, Rosie Preston, Illinois City, Margaret Martin, Milan, Wilma Etter, Muscatine and Dorothy Holladay, Milan and one brother Paul DeKeyrel, Illinois City. She married Albert Cederstrom on November 21, 1938, in DeWitt, IA. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1976. They began dairy farming in the Sherrard area in 1952. Madelene continued to farm with her son, Albert Jr., and grandchildren, after his death.
Madelene worked at John Deere Malleable foundry before and just after marrying Albert.
She enjoyed sewing cloth rabbits, gardening, raising Shelties and collecting Precious Moments and teddy bears in her later years.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Albert and Twila Cederstrom, Larry Cederstrom, and Kristene and Lee Nice, all of Sherrard; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert, great granddaughter Sara and three brothers Hank, Louie and Frank and sister Laura.
