Madhusudan Goswami

Bettendorf, Iowa

Madhusudan “Mike” Goswami was a devoted Hindu priest, religious philosopher, Indian National Guardsman, and a skilled mechanical and electrical engineer. Above all, he was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He passed away peacefully in Bettendorf, Iowa, on March 22, 2025, at the age of 81, surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 2 PM at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Ave, Moline, IL 61265.

Madhusudan was born in 1943 in Surat, India, during the British colonization of India, to Parvati and Ramanlal Goswami. His father was deeply devoted to the Radha Vallabh Mandir, an influence that shaped Madhusudan’s dedication to faith. A bright and diligent student, he graduated at the top of his class and pursued a career in engineering. He was one of nine siblings, a family of scholars who became chemists, engineers, and professors.

In 1968, Mike immigrated to Canada before settling in the United States. On February 4, 1971, he married the love of his life, Usha, who joined him in Aurora, Illinois, later that year. Together, they built a life filled with fun and adventure, moving frequently in their early years. Their first daughter Alpa was born near Chicago, followed by Roopa in Springfield, Illinois. In 1979, the family settled in Waterloo, Iowa, where Mikecontinued his career at John Deere. There, his family grew with the births of Varsha and Shyam.

Madhusudan was a dedicated and involved father and grandfather, always present at games, track meets, swim competitions, band performances, and academic events. He took pride in his children's and grandchildren’s achievements, offering enthusiastic support and encouragement.

In recent years, Madhusudan began experiencing symptoms of a perplexing illness. Less than three weeks before his passing, he was diagnosed with ALS. He faced this challenge with strength, and he left this world peacefully in his sleep. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

Madhusudan is survived by his wife of 54 years, Usha; his brothers Ramesh and Morari; his sister Kanta; his daughter Alpa, her husband Patrick, and their children Ravi and Chandani; his daughter Roopa, her husband Jatin, and their children Rajan and Sachin; his daughter Varsha; and his son Shyam.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the ALS Society in Madhusudan’s honor.
