Maria Cristina Oro?o Greene, 66, of East Moline, IL, died January 1, 2008 at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus, Silvis, IL.
The body has been cremated. There is no visitation or funeral service per her expressed wishes. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity or to Black Hawk College, where she worked from 1979 until 2007 as a teacher, program coordinator, and counselor.
Cris earned the equivalent of a master's degree in secondary education at the Universidad Nacional de Rosario, in Rosario, Argentina and later received a master's degree in counseling and guidance from Western Illinois University. In 1997 she was promoted to the rank of full professor at Black Hawk College. She served as Chair of the Counseling Department of Black Hawk College from 1996 until 2007.
Over the years, Cristina consistently volunteered many hours of her time to serve on boards, advisory councils, committees, and a variety of community projects and inter-agency teams. She was a dedicated professional who devoted her life to education, the service of students, and the community. She touched many lives with her compassion, her knowledge, and her sincere desire to help others.
In her private life, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who placed a high value on family and friendship. She is survived by her immediate family: A daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Rob Buckingham, Longview, Washington; a son, Brian, Moline, Illinois; and granddaughters Cristina and Isabel Buckingham, Longview, Washington. Cris is also survived by many extended family members and close friends in her native country of Argentina, as well as in Iowa, Illinois, Florida, Arkansas, Colorado, Alaska, and the East and West Coasts. She was preceded in death by her dear husband of 35 years, Homer E. Greene.
