Marie Natalie Norman Davis was born June 20, 1917, to Cecil Norman and Clara Belle Gross Norman in Mecosta, Michigan. Subsequently, Marie's mother and father divorced. Marie, her mother and Marie's only sibling Allen Norman, moved to Racine, Wisconsin. She graduated from high school while in Racine. It was in Racine that Marie's mother and Reverend R. A. Allen met. The marriage took place in Chicago on August 8, 1934 and lasted a lifetime. Reverend Allen moved the family to Moline, Illinois, where he served as pastor and later rebuilt the Tabernacle Baptist Church. In Moline, Marie met Charles William Davis and they were married November 12, 1937. They became the parents of two children: Gilbert Charles and Elaine Jacqueline.
Marie was an active and faithful member of Tabernacle from the time her parents brought her to the church until she slowed down physically in her nineties. In addition to her years of service at Tabernacle, she was a member of the Moline Women's Civic Club, the Women's Christian Guild and the Eastern Star ADA Chapter 10. Marie retired from the Isabel Design Shop after twenty years of service. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to such places as Hawaii; and with her daughter Elaine and granddaughter Kim to China and Mexico.
Marie will be missed by her loving family and friends. She leaves her son Gilbert (Ida Jo), daughter Elaine Chisholm; three granddaughters, Kim Chisholm, Colleen Davis and Kelley Davis; two grandsons, Kipp Davis and Kristian Paulsen; two great granddaughters Vinessa Davis and Allison Munos, a great grandson, Mason Meents and her cousin's daughter, Joann Agee. Her very close family continues with her niece Helen Allen (Joe), nephews: Willie Mc Adams (Charlotte) with whom she enjoyed many morning breakfasts of sausage biscuits brought to her by Willie from a local fast food restaurant, Rev. David Mc Adams (Juanita), and a host of sons and daughters and grandchildren and great grandchildren of these nephews and niece. A special tribute goes to Joe Allen from Marie for the many trips to the beauty salon, grocery shopping, and daily meals cooked and delivered to her when she gave up driving, and to Helen, Joe and William for their special love and care.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, brother Allen Norman, sister-in-law Margo Norman, nephew Louis Norman and beloved cousin Hermeta Coleman.
