Marilyn R. Bess, age 76, of Moline died Thursday, July 15, 2004 at Trinity West Hospital, Rock Island.
Visitation will be on Saturday, July 17, 2004 from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. with an Eastern Star service at 6:00 p.m. conducted by Valley Chapter #274. Funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline.
Burial is in Steedman Cemetery, Steedman, Missouri. Memorials may be made to Eastern Star Home in Macon, IL.
Marilyn was born in the beautiful Ozark Mountains on April 9, 1928 in Portland, Missouri, the daughter of Charles and Amanda Lawrence Russell. She graduated from Mokane High School, Mokane, Missouri in 1946 and married Charles Bess on July 26, 1947.
Marilyn was a homemaker, traveler, avid crossword puzzle fan and the best apple pie baker in the world. She was a Past Matron of Valley Chapter #274, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of Elim Covenant Church, Moline.
Survivors include her loving husband of almost 57 years, Charles; three daughters, Yvonne Smith (Milwaukee, WI), Michelle Kawa (Milwaukee, WI) and Ruth Ann (Michael) Holcomb (Rock Spring, WY); 2 grandchildren, Neal and Stephanie Smith; her brother Elbert Lee (Delores) Russell (Crestview, FL). She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Charles Wesley Russell.
