Marit A. Nordquist, 95, a resident of Friendship Manor, Rock Island, formerly of East Moline, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at UnityPoint Health Trinity, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2016, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave.,Moline. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Moline.
Marit was born April 6, 1921, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Axel and Katherine Nordquist. She was a graduate of Moline High School and a winner of the American Legion Award. In her early working career, she was employed by law offices in Moline and Los Angeles, CA. Following 29 years of service with Deere & Co., she retired in 1982 as an executive secretary.
Marit was a member of First Lutheran Church, Moline, for many years where she was active in WELCA and the Library Committee. She was also a member of the Ever Willing Circle of King’s Daughters and Deere Women Retirees. She was a former member of the Rock River Chapter of the National Secretaries Association, where she was elected Secretary of the Year in 1963. Marit lived nine years in Mobile, Alabama, where she was active in the work of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and a volunteer for the American Heart Association. During WWII she was a member of the local American Red Cross Canteen Corp. She traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe. She enjoyed bridge, club associations, and luncheons with her special friends, and being with family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers Ernest and Glen.
Her vitality and beaming smile will be greatly missed by her family and close friends.
