Martha Ellen Gizynski, 85, went to join her Lord and Savior on September 18, 2010.
A service to celebrate and remember her life will be held on Tuesday, September 21st, at 11 a.m. at First United Presbyterian Church, Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at the Rock Island Arsenal. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Martha was born on August 23, 1925, in Lake City, Florida, to Jennie Averett and Charles Lundy Hansford. She grew up in the Alliance Community, Florida. She met her husband Edward Gizynski at Dale-Mabry Field in Tallahassee, and they married on January 6, 1946. They moved to Moline and later to East Moline.
Martha was involved in many civic activities, including Moline Junior Woman's Club, American Red Cross, PTA, Friendship Force, and A Silver Lining King's Daughters. Traveling was one of her great joys, and she and Ed traveled extensively in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and South America. She was an avid bridge player, square dancer, and homemaker.
Martha was active in the First United Presbyterian Church, Moline, serving as a deacon, choir member, Sunday School teacher, and Superintendent. She worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and Arrow Pattern Company for a few years.
Martha is survived by husband Edward; daughter Ellen (Rob't) Greene, Moline; daughter Sharon (Jim) Caldwell, Houston, Texas; grandson Daniel Gordon, Orlando, Florida; sister Christine Cook; brother Charles Hansford; and various other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bruce Hansford, and sister-in-law Kate.
Martha loved to laugh, loved to entertain, and was devoted to God and family. We will miss her steadfast love and her beautiful smile.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Illini Restorative Care Center, where Martha lived for the past six years.
