Martha Benton Pollard, 98, of Moline, died Saturday February 23, 2008 at Cahokia Nursing Home, Cahokia, IL.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 29, 2008 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1501-6th Ave., East Moline. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the church.
Martha was born May 26, 1909 in Carlinville, IL, the daughter of Thomas Benton and Sarah Louisa Banks Steward. She married Dewitt Pollard in 1947 in East Moline. He preceded her in death in 1991. Martha attended Southern Illinois University and was previously a teacher in the East Moline, Moline and Rock Island School Districts.
Martha was a member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She was a past member of the Eastern Star, started a second opportunity school and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
