Mary J. Daufeldt, 92, of Moline, IL, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, IL.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2017, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Mary was born on May 14, 1925, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Julius and Josephine Januszkiewiez Tutinas. During WWII, she helped the war effort by building ailerons for the military aircraft in one of the John Deere buildings in Moline. Later in life, she worked as a medical assistant for Dr. Stegmaier for 26 years. She married George Daufeldt on July 10, 1971, and was a long-time member of Edgewood Baptist Church.
Mary enjoyed caring for her dog, Casey, feeding and watching birds and her flower gardens. She was an excellent cook who loved reading and collecting recipes and cooking for her family. She was always our “go to” for advice on life matters and was always there for support. Mary made friends easily because of her genuine warmth and caring personality. Although relatively small in stature, she had an inner strength which has been and will continue to be an example for all who knew her.
Till the day we meet again, left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Patricia Ragan; son, Gerald Hopkins; grandson, Nathan Hopkins; granddaughters, Chelsey (Ryan) Wallington, Nicole (Spencer) Winston, and Jamie Hopkins; great grandson, Cameron Heath; great granddaughter, Brooklyn Wallington; step children, John Daufeldt, Judy Nelson, Nancy Webb, Judi Curry, and Juneene Felderman.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and her husband.
