Mary Jane DeSmet, 91, passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord on Monday, October 30, 2006 at Trinity Pathway Hospice, after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure. Funeral services will be held at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be at Moline Memorial Park immediately following services at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to Trintiy Pathway Hospice.
Mary Jane was born March 17th, 1915 in Chicago, daughter of Clara Eck Hoog and Edward Hoog. She married John Donald MacCall in 1937. He preceded her in death in 1963. Mary Jane completed her bachelor's degree at the University of Illinois in 1964. She married Henry J. DeSmet March 25th, 1972 in Cambridge, Illinois.
Mary Jane taught school in the East Moline school district for 9 years at Hillcrest Elementary retiring in 1974. The great joys of her life, beyond her family and friends, included music, literature, and gardening. She was a loving woman of great strength, courage and warmth.
Surviving children and stepchildren include John (Linda) MacCall, Thomas (Suzanne) MacCall, Kathleen (Gary) Qualls, all of Moline, Illinois, Julie Schumacher, Stockton California, and Robert MacCall, Montrose Colorado. She had nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. One sister, Emmy Louise (Merle) Milligan of Denver Colorado survives, as do special friends William and Dorothy Pate. She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Wells, Lago Vista, Texas.
