Mary Frances Slininger, 95, of Moline, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at OSF St. Francis Hospital, Peoria.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 2nd, 2010 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital located at OSF St. Francis, Peoria.
Mary was born on August 23, 1915 in Moline, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Alta (Fisher) Schmiers. She married Meredith Evan "Jim" Slininger in 1931 in LeClaire, Iowa, he preceded her in death.
Mary was a chef working at various restaurants including the Harper House, Red Carpet Club, Gay 90's in the Harms Hotel and the Elks. She was a charter member of the East End Club and a charter member and the oldest member of the Horticultural Society, Moline, where she served as secretary. She was a member of ABWA Plow Chapter of over 50 years, where she had also been Outstanding Member of the Year. She loved gardening and had won several ribbons and Best of Show Awards for her flowers, veggies, fruits and canned goods at both the Mississippi Valley Fair and the Rock Island County Fair. She also enjoyed sewing, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son Merle, son-in-law Eddie Crow, siblings Joseph, Bud, Virginia, Alice, Christina, Jack and Dick.
