Mary J. Zapata, 84, of Silvis, passed away Thursday August 24, 2023, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday August 30, 2023, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with a Rosary to be recited at 3:30 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Moline.
Mary was born on April 21, 1939, in Silvis, the daughter of Felix and Carmen (Rangel) Ramirez. She married Pedro Zapata in November of 1965, in Silvis. He preceded her in death in 1998. She was previously employed as a sales employee in the plumbing department for Payless Cashways for 25 years, retiring in 1998. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mary enjoyed traveling, home repair and playing the guitar. More than anything, she loved to be with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Ana Zapata, Eduardo Zapata (Layne Evans), Alicia Zapata, Elizabeth (Say) Kongkousonh, Carlos (Carrie) Zapata; grandchildren, Evan & McKenzie Womack, Isabella & Maximiliano Kongkousonh, Cameryn, Luke & Mia Zapata; great grandchildren, Aidyn & Amelia Womack; brother, Felix Ramirez; sister, Carmen (Thomas) McLean; Godchildren, Fran Snyder, David Allen Ramirez, Esmerelda Mendez, Aaron Flores, Mark McLean, Isabella Kongkousonh.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents and siblings, Jesse Nache, Milo Nache, Joe Ramirez, Louis Ramirez, Frank Ramirez, Al Ramirez, Lou Castellano, Connie Veloz, Minnie Valero, Annie Nache.
