Maurice R. "Dick" DeMeyer, Jr. age 61 of Coal Valley died peacefully at the home of his daughter after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family at his side.
Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2004 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Western Cemetery, Orion. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #255 and Orion VFW # 143 Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital or Gilda's Club.
Maurice was born May 24, 1943 in Moline to Maurice R. and Marie Batsleer DeMeyer, Sr. He married Deborah S. Huggins on April 6, 1968 in East Moline.
Maurice was operator in the Power House for John Deere Harvester, East Moline from 1977 to last working in November of 2002. Prior to his job at John Deere he was self-employed for 10 years as owner and operator for DX Gas Station, East Moline.
Maurice was an Army veteran serving from 1965-1967.
