Maxine Elizabeth Viaene, 82, of Rock Island, IL died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Trinity Rock Island.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 26, 2012 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3205 60th Street, Moline. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Street, Moline with a Rosary at 5:00. Entombment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Christ the King Catholic Church, or St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Maxine was born on July 3, 1929 in Racine, WI the daughter of Max Ludwig and Elizabeth Mae (Kupsh) Stopper. At the age of 10 her family moved to Moline, IL where she met and later married Richard Viaene on June 16, 1951. Richard preceded her in death on April 20, 1987. She attended and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1947. She was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved her family and her Catholic Faith. Maxine was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church for 70 years and later a member of Christ the King.
She was involved with her children's schools in the 1960's as a Girl Scout Leader for 7 years, a member of the Altar & Rosary Society for 50 years, being President and Hospitality Chairman, Mother's Club, and an active member of Alleman High School Home and School Association. She later helped in RCIA at St. Mary's Church and was a Lector at Mass.
In 1977 she began working at Modern Woodmen of America Insurance Company in Rock Island and remained there for 12 years retiring in 1990 but continued on being active in the Retirees Luncheon Club. While at MWA she was on the board of the Ladies' Camp 26 for 20 years. Maxine enjoyed being Counsel and Chaplain Coordinating style shows, the first MWA Talent Show, and being on the ladies golf team.
After retiring, she became a volunteer at St. Mary's Benediction Monastery, Rock Island, spending many hours with the Benedictine nuns who taught her and her children through the years and became a Benedictine Oblate.
Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her greatest joy and she had a great love of family, friends, and her Catholic Faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Mae Stopper; husband, Richard Viaene; sister, Betty Stopper; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret (Thomas) Reynolds; nephew, Thomas Reynolds, Jr.; granddaughter, Kelley Michelle Walline.
