The former Mercedes Stinson was born November 10, 1902 in Marshall, TX, daughter of Marion and Ida Stinson. She married Albert Abel August 13, 1932 in Kansas City, MO. He died April 26, 1982.
Mrs. Abel was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served as chairperson of the All Nation Tea for many years. Her other memberships included the Moline Women's Civic Club and Eastern Star.
She loved watching Tiger Woods play golf, was a Cub fan and an avid fisher. She loved birds and insisted that the bird feeder outside her window be kept full at all times. Her favorite song was " If I Could Help Somebody", which she tried to do wherever she went. While at Heartland she would read the Bible and other books to those who desired it but were unable to read themselves due to illness. She sang in a group, was elected President of an activity club at Heartland and truly tried to make a difference in the lives of others.
She was the youngest and the last survivor of thirteen children. Survivors include her very special friends; Roscoe and Gloria Spencer of East Moline and Joe and Helen Allen of Moline, nephews Larry (Linda) Abel of Canton, OH, Rev. Earl Abel, Kansas City, MO and a host of friends.
Roscoe and Gloria wish to express their gratitude to Heartland Healthcare Center and Dr. Reynaldo Castro for the exceptional care given to their friend, Mrs.Abel.
